ACG Mountain Fly

Nike’s ACG sub-label has been active since the late 1980s. In that time it has produced dozens of hardy shoes for outdoor adventures, including the versatile ACG Mountain Fly, which makes hiking easy, comfortable and enjoyable.

The Nike ACG Mountain Fly first appeared in 2020 with a powerful sole and a seamless, lightweight GORE-TEX upper. Its flexible ankle gaiter protects against the elements, its extensive mudguard brings durability, its reflective elements add visibility and its dual pull tabs and toggle lacing facilitate easy entry. Meanwhile, a React foam midsole offers comfort and shock absorption, and a springy carbon-fibre Flyplate enhances stability and energy return. Underfoot, the outsole incorporates chevron and Waffle lugs for comprehensive traction, its rubber extending upwards to shield the toes from harm.

In 2021, Nike introduced the low-top ACG Mountain Fly, giving it the same supportive sole unit alongside a new upper. Made of sturdy ripstop nylon, it has a substantial heel panel that works with the sock-like inner and unique lacing system to deliver outstanding lockdown. The eyelets are anchored by the synthetic mudguard and TPU heel clip, giving the shoe a dynamic aesthetic that is enhanced by its reflective heel patch and bold ACG branding. Innovative Canadian lifestyle label Haven harnessed this style in a suave collaboration that helped boost the launch of the ACG Mountain Fly Low. A GORE-TEX edition followed in 2022 with a reduced mudguard, an additional heel pull loop and a more extensive lacing system that gives a locked-in feel.

One year later, the Nike ACG Mountain Fly 2 introduced significant changes across both upper and sole. Its dual-density foam midsole provides cushioning, impact protection and energy return, while the removal of the carbon-fibre plate allows greater flexibility. The outsole has a new traction pattern with angular lugs for outstanding grip and durability, high sidewalls enhance stability and a thin yet durable mesh upper improves breathability. Plush padding brings softening comfort to the heel and instep as the conventional lacing achieves lockdown through an adjustable toggle fastening system and semi-gusseted tongue.

In late 2023, the ACG Mountain Fly 2 was honoured with a distinctive Doernbecher edition inspired by the healing power of nature, and in 2024, Nike celebrated the launch of the GORE-TEX version in a stylish collaboration with Japanese fashion label Comme des Garçons. Nike then honoured the silhouette’s growing heritage in 2025 by reintroducing the Mountain Fly Low GORE-TEX in several new colourways.

Robust in its design and captivating in its appearance, the Nike ACG Mountain Fly has the style and power to take on everything from gentle urban walks to challenging hikes.
